Music has always been a vital part of life at Gould Farm, bringing joy, connection, and healing to our community. From contradances in the Main House dining room to singing songs together after morning meeting to hearing someone practice the piano in the living room during tea snack time, music is always in the air here. Recently, the power of music was on full display during a heartwarming concert and talent show that showcased the incredible talent within and beyond our Farm -- including music, poetry, and comedy.
The evening began with enchanting piano and music performances by children of staff members, who have been studying under the skilled guidance of local teacher Houry Schmeizel. Their melodies filled the room with a sense of hope and promise, demonstrating the beauty of nurturing creativity in young lives.
Adding to the magic, several Gould Farm guests stepped forward to share their talents in an open mic portion of the concert. These performances highlighted the courage and vulnerability of our guests and the empowering role of music in self-expression and recovery.
Earlier in January we welcomed to the Farm a special visit and performance by the Fellside Chorus, a remarkable group composed of alumni and participants of Gould Farm's Boston program at Fellside. Led by Oren Rosenthal—music therapist, long-time volunteer, and former staff member and guest of Gould Farm—the chorus brought their unique blend of harmonies and heartfelt connection to the Farm, bridging past and present in a celebration of community and resilience.
Music has the profound ability to uplift, connect, and heal, and at Gould Farm, it serves as a cornerstone of our shared journey. Whether through learning an instrument, joining a choir, singing together each day at our Morning Meeting, jamming in our well-loved music room, or simply listening, music reminds us of our collective strength and the joy of shared experiences.
Thank you to all who contributed their time and talents to this unforgettable celebration of music at Gould Farm!
